The reverse of the coin features the painting “Starry Night”, depicting the landscape from Van Gogh’s bedroom window, while he was in the Saint-Remy-de-Provence asylum. The contrast between the turbulent, dynamic night sky and the calm of the small village just below the lines of the hills conveys Van Gogh’s unstable psychological state, as well as the duality of his temperament. At the bottom-left, the inscription: “2024.” On the right side, a sewing needle partially hidden from the surface, reappearing on the obverse, designed to resemble the back of the loom.
On the obverse, the inscription: “FINE EMBROIDERY ART,” is cleverly written backwards, to better feature the back of the loom. In the middle of the obverse, the Public Seal of Palau, along with the inscriptions: “REPUBLIC OF PALAU” and “20$.”
