On July 20, 1969, the people of Earth were glued to their television sets. Before their very eyes, a door opened, a ladder descended, and a man first set foot on the surface of the Moon. The footprints, the flag and plaque left on the lunar surface sent an eternal message throughout the cosmos: humanity had finally reached the heavens, and America led the way. In honor of the 55th anniversary of the Apollo 11 mission comes this exciting commemorative coin that transports you to the lunar surface with an engaging design that celebrates the first moon landing.
Struck in an ounce of highly pure 99.9% fine silver, this coin depicts Apollo 11 astronaut and the first man to set foot on the moon Neil Armstrong in the foreground with the lunar lander in the background. Look closely and you’ll see that his visor has been selectively colorized to reflect the earth. Around the rim of the coin an inscription reads: “55 YEARS Of MOON LANDING 1969 – 2024.” Thanks to the coin’s extraordinary Ultra High Relief (UHR) detail, the exquisite designs seem like they’re leaping from its surface. Then there’s the “Black Proof” finish that casts the entire scene in a glorious atmosphere-less environment. The rich black color perfectly accentuates the coin’s gorgeous proof surface that was expertly crafted from hand-selected planchets, polished dies and multiple strikes to produce beautifully frosted details rising over mirror-like fields.
