This is the final edition in the series honoring the center of power, art, and science of France in the 17th and 18th centuries. The reverse features a detailed portrayal of the ceiling of the “Temple of Love,” which is close to the private rooms of Marie Antoinette, located inside the château de Versailles. Marie Antoinette would sit within the perfectly round Temple of Love, designed in 1778 by her favorite architect Richard Mique. Inside stood a statue of Cupid, as well as an intricate ceiling sculpted by Joseph Deschamps.
Begun as a simple hunting lodge on the site of the Palace of Versailles in 1623 and expanded into a small castle / palace in 1631–34. It was a favorite residence for kings, and in 1682, Louis XIV moved the seat of his court and government to Versailles, making the palace the capital of France.
Created using a 4-Layer Technique, this silver coin is a work of art that transports you through history!
