A large fireball detonated over the Nigerian state of Oyo on the afternoon of April 19, 2018. A meteoroid was transcending the Earth’s atmosphere just prior to the explosion resulting in extraterrestrial rocks creating deep cracks and craters in the dry soil of Nigeria. While the detonation is fairly recent, the formation of the meteorite is estimated to be 4.67 billion years ago or about the same age as our solar system.
