Týr is revered as the divine patron of battle, valor and justice. He is often called the “one-armed god” due to the loss of an arm during a daring attempt to tame the wolf Fenrir.
Anticipating the threat of Fenrir, the gods employed the dwarves to create a web that was both delicate and incredibly strong. To trap Fenrir, the gods offered to allow him to be tied with a net, but the wolf agreed only on the condition that the deity would put his hand in his mouth as a sign of trust. Realizing that he had been tricked, Fenrir took revenge by biting off the hand of Týr, who had bravely volunteered for this dangerous task.
In Germanic mythology, it was prophesied that during Ragnarok, the end of the world, Týr would face Garm, the cruel guardian of the underground kingdom of Hel. This epic battle will end with the death of both combatants.
Series Information
Powerful, majestic and fearless… such were the Germanic gods who created the world and boldly ruled it. Descended from primordial giants, they created a system in which there was room for humans and other beings. They formed the solid land, the ocean, mountains, seas and forests, the sky, clouds, sun and moon. They determined day and night, the length of the year and its seasons.
